25 years of SASTRA

The birth of Shanmugha College of Engineering in 1984 led to the genesis of what is now Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy. The University has achieved a National level of recognition in terms of its academic prowess and extra-curricular activities. The educational experience at SASTRA takes one back to the basics, and hones one's body, mind and soul. SASTRA not only imparts value based higher education to make good engineers or scientists or researchers, but also to make them good individuals and citizens who contribute to the enlightened society.
SRC
The Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre [SRC], Kumbakonam, was inaugurated, in November 2000, by Prof. V. S. Ramamurthy, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.The Various objectives of the centre are to conduct coaching classes for +2 students, establishment of a national monument for Srinivasa Ramanujan, offering degree programmes, etc. The centre at Kumbakonam was also established with an objective to provide high quality higher education to the people of Kumbakonam and nearby places. Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre in an area of 9 acres of land purchased is a magnificent edifice decorating the historic town of Kumbakonam.

NAAC Accreditation
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has given SASTRA an 'A' grade after assessing both the student body as well as the faculty members. They have commended the University for its promotion of research, its innovative flexibility in the curriculum, the various amenities provided for learning, the infrastructure which provides all the required facilities for higher learning and research oriented study and the collaboration with other Universities and Industries both in India and abroad.
Physical Facility
SASTRA boasts a campus area of more than two million square feet that comprises a wide variety of physical facilities. Each department building has state-of-the-art labs that help the students with their research. Moreover, the Center for Nanotechnology and Advance Biomaterials (CENTAB) and Center for Advance Research in Indian System of Medicine (CARISM) are the heart of the School of Chemical and Biotechnology, where SASTRA is ranked as number One in Asia.
WiFi
SASTRA's move to make the campus Wi-Fi enabled is to make Internet browsing seamless and convenient. This is a joint venture of Tifac Core @ SASTRA , TCS ( Tata Consultancy Services) and Aruba Networks. The classrooms, corridors of various academic and administrative buildings has been Wi-Fi enabled for the convenience of faculty, students and researchers and also for students staying in all 11 hostels on campus. This 42 Mpbs internet connection and Wi-Fi environment provided at a cost of Rs. 1.8 Crores is all set to revolutionize the teaching-learning mechanism at SASTRA University.
