An
International Conference on Nano Computing is organized by
the TIFAC
Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) at Shanmugha Arts,
Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) between
the 16th and 18th December 2001. A galaxy of scientists,
researchers and technocrats from around the globe
participated in this conference.
A pre-conference tutorial on Nano Technology and Nano Computing was held on the 16th at TIFAC-CORE. Welcoming the delegates and speakers at the inaugural session, Shri K.S. Lakshminarayanan, General Manager (Development) and Chief Technical Adviser, ELCOT highlighted the importance of establishing COREs into Institutes of higher learning and stressed on the need for establishing Industry-Academia - Government linkages to foster technological advancement that can reach out to the masses and prove socially relevant and beneficial. Tracing the emergence of new technologies in aerospace, semiconductor and other industries, he said that the 21st century has undergone a paradigm shift in technology throwing new challenges that were not even thought of in the last century. Optical, DNA and Quantum computing are potential areas of research today. He appreciated the efforts taken by the CORE on `Advanced Computing and Information Processing’ at SASTRA and hoped that the current International Conference would provide a platform for sharing the value-experiences and in enthusing and spreading Nano Computing to students, professionals and technical personnel interested in the field.
Prof. R. Bhavani Shankar, Chairman, Programme Committee presented an overview of the Tutorial.
