National Workshop on Embedded Systems

12th Sep. to 14th Sep. 2002 - A Report

The National Workshop on Embedded Systems was organized by the Department of Information Technology & TIFAC Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) at Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy during 12 -14 September 2002. The workshop was sponsored by Ministry of Communications and IT, AICTE and IEEE.

Erudite dignitaries from various research organizations converged on this meet and made eminent lectures on Embedded Systems and their applications. We had invited 13 speakers from organizations such as Analog Devices, Bangalore. Windriver Systems, Bangalore. Sands Instruments, Chennai. IISc, Picopeta, Texas Instruments, Centre for High Performance Embedded Systems, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Poseiden Technologies, iWave , C2C Solutions, Bangalore.

In his presidential address, Prof. R. Kandaswamy enlightened on the applications of Embedded Systems in Aviation, Control and Navigation. Inauguration was done Dr. K. S. Chari,Chairman, IEEE Electronics Devices Society (India Chapter) and Senior Director and Head, Microelectronics Division, Ministry of Communications and IT, Government of India. Dr. Chari, Chairman spoke on how “Traditional hardware has transformed itself into Intelligent hardware. India is a power house for software & design but he called for a more vibrant hardware industry. The industry and Government has started recognizing it now. Subsequent speakers had been successful in bringing to the audience the importance of the topic where hardware & software go hand in hand.

In the first session, in his speech, Mr. Jagan Arthanari, Senior Technical Consultant, Wind River Systems, Bangalore, gave a comprehensive speech on the topic” Embedded Systems and software for Embedded Systems”, specific applications and its future prospects.
