Information
technology will guide economy
Information technology will be in
the fore-front of the knowledge economy, the Union Minister of State
for Science and Technology, Kapil Sibal, said today.
He
was speaking after inaugurating a 6 Mbps Internet line, a law library
and the Centre for Advanced Research in Indian System of Medicine at
the Shanmugha Arts Science Technology and Research Academy (SASTRA).
He said information technology held out a lot of hope for students, as
there would be 70 lakh jobs in the sector in 2009. "
Lot
of students pass out of colleges. But quality upgrade is necessary to
equip them with the latest developments."
Mr. Sibal lauded the SASTRA for having secured excellent
remarks from the National Accreditation and Assessment Council and
from experts of the Washington Accord. As for the Indian system of
medicine, he said time had come for the people to avoid any conflict
with nature. Biotechnology was exceptionally important for
India
. The market for biotechnology products would expand by $10 billion in
2010.
