Core's Vision

The main objective of this Courses in TIFAC-CORE is to achieve academic excellence and impart knowledge to the students in the field of VLSI, Pervasive Computing, etc. The Curriculum is highly need based and designed in consultation with the collaborating industries and user organizations. The VISION of the CORE is achieving excellence in education and providing intellectual inputs to knowledge based industries by developing high quality human resources in emerging IT areas. Specialized courses on Network Security, Embedded Systems, Data Mining, Data Warehousing, GIS and VLSI are conducted in the center. The Curriculum is need based, designed in consultation with the collaborating industries and user organization.

Core's Profile

SASTRA has been recognized for its excellence in academic, infrastructure facilities, faculty and students and hence selected to establish a Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in Advanced Computing & Information Processing by the Technology, Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. This centre named TIFAC-CORE has been established at an investment of Rs. 8 crores with a Supercomputer, VLSI & Embedded System Lab, Sun Lab, Digital Online Library and Image Processing Laboratory for R&D work in Data mining, Information Security, 3-D imaging and visualization projects of industrial applications.

The Centre is set up to promote triangular linkage between Industry, Academics and Government in the IT field. Collaborations exist with various IT hardware and software companies such as Semiconductor Complex India Ltd., ECIL., BARC., L&T Emsys, Cypress Semiconductors, ISRO, Bharat Electronics, ITI, DRDO, BHEL, Satyam, etc. to enable students to undertake project work in these companies and for faculty to undertake project work in these companies and for faculty to conduct research.

The advanced computing facility set up in this centre is very useful to the Industry for high speed computing, database management, graphics and design, analysis and visualization applications. The centre also takes up consultancy and R&D to solve specific industrial problem. The Centre uses the 250 Mbps (BSNL NKN) and 16 Mbps (Reliance) high speed internet connectivity which is applicable throughout the network campus for web based education. The students seek solutions to research problems on all areas of engineering by interesting with leading research institutions. A Virtual University with this TIFAC-CORE as the central hub is being planned by TIFAC, DST.
