FROM THE CO-ORDINATORS DESK
One year has passed since TIFAC-CORE started
functioning in its new building “Manisha”. Manisha,
built at a cost of Rs 3 crores, was opened in December
2001. We had a good beginning with the various
dignitaries, scientists, researchers and academicians
from India and abroad meeting together at Manisha to
discuss the latest trends in computing – “Nano
computing”. The International conference on “Nano
Compuing – Technology Trends” organized by TIFAC-CORE
was a great success and the first of its kind
. Readers who are interested are requested to
visit our website for details.
A 2 Mbps leased line Internet facility was inaugurated
in TIFAC-CORE on 15th Dec 2001.TIFAC-CORE has tried to
strengthen its capabilities in VLSI, Embedded Systems
and Information Security by industrial & research
collaboration with Electronics Corporation of India
Limited, Hyderabad, Semiconductor Complex Limited,
Chandigarh & Centre for High Performance Embedded
System of NTU(CHiPES), Singapore.
Besides establishing the state-of-art facilities and
design tools for VLSI design, TIFAC-CORE launched
academic programmes in M.Tech, P.G.Diploma and
Certificate Course in VLSI Design in the last academic
The high speed computing facility HP rp8400- the high
end server in the campus, can cater not only to the
research and acadmic needs of the campus, but
also can serve as a powerful computing platform for
academic and research community nearby. A
connectivity to this resource for other TIFAC-COREs is
contemplated by the Government. We will be happy to
extend help to those who are interested in availing
themselves of this HPC facility.
My sincere thanks to our leader Prof. R.Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor, a great visionary,
without whom this TIFAC-CORE could not have been a
reality. Also I take this opportunity to thank all
those who have advised and helped us to lead this
mission to success.
Wishing all the readers a very happy new year.
