Preamble



DWSIM is an open-source CAPE-OPEN compliant chemical process simulator. It features a Graphical User Interface (GUI), advanced thermodynamics calculations, reactions support and petroleum characterization / hypothetical component generation tools. DWSIM can simulate steady-state, vapor–liquid, vapor–liquid-liquid, solid–liquid and aqueous electrolyte equilibrium processes and has built-in thermodynamic models and unit operations (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DWSIM ). The workshop will cover basic aspects of create flow sheet in DWSIM and simulation of simple units such as mixer, equilibrium reactor, distillation column


OpenModelica is a free and open source modelling and simulation environment based on Modelica (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenModelica). Modelica is an object-oriented, declarative, multi-domain modeling language for component-oriented modeling of complex systems, e.g., systems containing mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, thermal, control, electric power or process-oriented subcomponents. In the present workshop, basic modeling using OpenModelica will be focussed for simple steady and transient state systems such as batch reactor, interacting and non-interacting tank

These free and open source tools are available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS.The workshop is aimed to create awareness of the free &open source tools - “DWSIM” and “OpenModelica” among faculty, post graduate and practicing process engineers. The workshop will make use of spoken tutorial (http://spoken-tutorial.org/) created and made available by IITB, under the FOSSEE project, NMEICT-MHRD initiative.
