Worked as a Research Associate in the CSIR funded project entitled “Nonlinear Dynamics of Femtosecond Pulse Propagation in Nonlinear Fibers” at the Department of Physics, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry-605 014 under the guidance of Prof. K. Porsezian from May 2003 to December 2005.
Dr. R. Ganapathy was awarded Ph.D. Degree from Cochin University of Science & Technology on 29.09.2003.

FIELD OF INTEREST
Analytical and numerical studies of soliton propagation in nonlinear optics encompassing nonlinear fiber optics, photonic crystal fibers, nonlinear bulk media, nano-structured materials, and nanophotonics
During the past eleven years, Dr. R. Ganapathy has been investigating the nonlinear dynamics of nonlinear optics and related problems.
Contribution to Nonlinear Optics & Nanophotonics
Investigated the soliton type pulse propagation of many unsolved problems in the area of NONLINEAR FIBER OPTICS. Considering the higher order dispersion, Kerr dispersion, stimulated inelastic scattering and random nonuniformities he has explained the soliton type propagation in both resonant and nonresonant single mode fibers and proposed several soliton models in nonlinear waveguides which find applications in optical communication. Explained the modulational instability conditions in birefringent fibers with all the above higher order effects. Recently, collaborating with Prof. Akira Hasegawa, the Father of Soliton Communication Systems, he has analyzed the influence of initial phase modulation on soliton-soliton interaction and the impact of initial phase modulation in dispersion management fibers. Moreover, he is also doing collaborative research with Prof. Boris A. Malomed in the field of dual core optical fibers. Very recently, he started collaborating with Dr. Noel Frederick Smyth of University of Edinburgh in the field of nematicon propagation in light induced waveguides in nematic liquid crystals and their applications to nano-photonics. With regard to this collaboration, an International Thematic Workshop on Light Induced Waveguides and their Applications to Nanophotonics, was organized at SASTRA University from 7.12.2008 to 9.12.2008 and sponsored by DST, India and Royal Society, England.
