Saraswathi Sadan, the New Central Library building was religiously opened by His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam on 8th February 2003.

This 46,698 sq.ft building houses a Digital library, audio-visual rooms, journal displays and facilities for online mock tests for GRE, TOEFL, etc.,This library will add 1 lakh volumes in the next three years taking the investment for the next three years to Rs.3
crores.
His Holiness also laid the Foundation Stone for SANDIPANI SADAN, the Boy's Hostel Building.
The Fourth Shri Alangadu Viswanatha Seshadri Iyer Satabhishekam Endowment Lecture on "Environmental Protection for Survival" was delivered by Prof. Dr. Rajendra Prakash, Professor Emeritus, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, on 18th January 2003.
Dr. T. Rajagopal of Texas Tech. University, USA, delivered a special lecture on "Nano materials for Semi Conductor Applications" on 28th January 2003. His IBM sponsored research served to highlight the novel and exciting applications of nano materials in electronics and communications.
To ensure improved performance and maximum utilisation of resources, the different branches functioning as departments were integrated to form Schools, each of them headed by their respective Dean. |

Alagappa University, Karaikudi, awarded the Ph.D. degree to Shri K.S. Ravichandran, Asst. Professor, School of Computing, SASTRA, for his thesis "Contributions to Fuzzy Theory and Some of its Engineering Applications," in December 2002.
Smt. A. Hannah Rachel Vasanthi, Lecturer in the School of Chemical & Bio-technology, SASTRA, received her Ph.D., Degree from the Tamil University, Thanjavur for her thesis "Bio-Chemical and Pharmacological Studies of Some Marine Algae of the Gulf of Mannar, South East Coast of India," in January 2003.

Dr. S. Murugesh, Nodal Officer, Agriclinic & Agribusiness Centre, SASTRA, attended the IV National Workshop on Nodal Officers under Agriclinic & Agribusiness Centres' Scheme conducted at MANAGE, Hyderabad from 11th February 2003 to 13th February 2003.
It is a matter of pride that the Agriclinic at SASTRA has produced more than 50% success stories as compared to the national average of 20%.
