NATIONAL SEMINAR ON FOLKLORE AND 
TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE
 

 

A National Seminar on Folklore and Traditional Knowledge was organised on 28th and 29th April, 2004 by the School of Management, SASTRA. This seminar was sponsored by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The seminar was organised under the Scheme for Intellectual Property Education, Research and Public Out Reach, with a view to creating awareness among the ethnic groups about the cultural and socio - economic importance of their Folklore and Traditional Knowledge and protecting the same by stressing the need for proper documentation.

 

The seminar was inaugurated by Shri S. Chandrasekaran, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Thanjavur. He said intellectual property right is vital for success and maintaining competitive advantage in any industrial and commercial activity.

Muthiah, Head, Department of Folklore, MK University, Madurai, Dr. Arivunambi, Head, Department of Tamil, Pondicherry University, Dr. M.S. Arivudainambi, Head, Department of Rare Paper Manuscripts, Tamil University and Dr. Santhi of Tamil University addressed various sessions of the two-day seminar. More than forty delegates from academic institutions and practitioners of folklore and traditional medicine participated.

 

FEEL ADMINISTRATORS' PROGRAMME

 

A one-day training programme, 'FEEL Administrators', for Headmasters and Principals of Schools, was organised on 27th June, 2004 by the Department of Training and Placement, SASTRA in association with M/S AIM INSIGHTS, Mangalore. 31 participants from various schools in Thanjavur District attended the programme. Prof. Sunney Therappan was the Chief Resource Person.

 

This programme trained the Headmasters and Principals of schools on the emerging issues of managing schools and school children.
