III ANNUAL DAY OF SRC

 

Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre celebrated its Third Annual Day on 29th April, 2004. Shri Arun C. Bharat, IRS, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax delivered the Annual Day Address and distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions.

Shri Arun Bharat, also honoured the Gold Medal winners of the Intercollegiate Oratorical Competitions in English and Tamil held in memory of the Rt. Hon'ble Shri V. S. Srinivasa Sastri and Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. U. V. Swaminatha Iyer. He also distributed Cash awards to the winners of Inter- School Cultural Competitions. In his speech, he insisted upon the role of universities in helping the students acquire an overall development of their personality. He also asked the students to make the best use of the facilities extended to them by the university.

 

III SPORTS DAY OF SRC

 

Presentation of memento to Shri S. Thirugnanam

 

Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre celebrated its Third Sports Day on 29th April, 2004. Shri S. Thirugnanam, 

Divisional Engineer, BSNL, Kumbakonam presided over the Sports Day Celebrations. He gave away 140 cups, shields and trophies to winners of various sports and field events conducted in connection with the Third Sports Day.

 

SRINIVASA RAMANUJAN REMEMBRANCE DAY

 

The 84th Remembrance Day of the mathematical genius, Srinivasa Ramanujan was observed on 26th April, 2004 at Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre (SRC) of SASTRA at Kumbakonam.

 

Prof. B.D. Acharya, Head, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India delivered a special address on the occasion. He stressed the need for hunting for mathematical talent of youngsters and nurturing it. In this regard, he said, the psychology or the mindset of the individual and the environment in which he had been brought up must be considered in equal measure. He also said that every research study should address the social needs and should contemplate how far it should be useful for the public at large.

 

Prof. R. Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor, SASTRA presided over the function. Prof. K. Srinivasa Rao and Prof. V. Thangaraj of the Madras Institute of Mathematics, Prof. R. Balakrishnan of the Bharathidasan University and Dr. M. Ramalingam, Director, SRC participated.
