SASTRA University, Thanjavur and Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai have entered
into an MoU in the area of regenerative medicine
and stem cell research in Ophthalmology. This MoU was signed on January 28, 2008
by Prof. R. Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor, SASTRA University, Dr. S. S. Badrinath,
Chairman Emeritus and Dr. H. N. Madhavan of Sankara Nethralaya. The Vision Research & Medical Research
Foundations of Sankara Nethralaya and the Centre for Nanotechnology & Advanced Biomaterials,
SASTRA University, will identify mutual areas of interest in Ophthalmologic regeneration and
will jointly conduct research that will lead to path-breaking solutions. The MoU also provides
scope for regular interaction between students of SASTRA University and research professionals
at Sankara Nethralaya. Qualified people from Sankara Nethralaya can also register for their
Ph. D. programmes at SASTRA University. The laboratories at Sankara Nethralaya have been recognized
to be eligible for conduct of research work for Ph. D. by SASTRA University.
