National Workshop on Embedded Systems

 09th May to 11th May 2005 - A Report

Internet is becoming one of the key features of tomorrow's  ubiquitous and pervasive computing  and communication world. The evolution of mobile phones network, such as UMTS will soon allow everyone to be connected, everywhere. This new network technologies bring the ability to deal not only with classical voice or text messages, but also with improved content: multimedia. At the mobile level, this kind of data oriented content requires highly efficient architectures.  The increased capabilities provided by advanced semiconductor technology and the associated emphasis on embedded system development have created a great demand for reusable designs. With wide chances available in terms of hardware, software and development tools for design, Embedded System has become a viable alternative in the field of research and industrial product development. Implementations of embedded systems with low power and stringent security assurance requirements have been a topic of emphasis in this scenario. The strongly increasing dependability of security on a working IT infrastructure emphasizes the need of addressing the security issues with an industrial touch. . This workshop brought  together the Industry and Academy to explore the status and issues in the field of embedded systems design.

To appreciate the advances in Embedded systems and to productively contribute to future advances of these systems, a critical appreciation of the underlying technology underpinning is a must. Therefore, following the successes of earlier embedded system workshops, TIFAC-CORE at Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy in association with IEEE EDS & MTT (India chapter) and Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Govt. of India , Hewlett Packard India  VLSI Society of India conducted a three day National Workshop on Embedded systems from May 09-11, 2005.

TIFAC-CORE@SASTRA hosted this workshop as a forum for teachers and researchers from various universities and AICTE approved Engineering colleges, professionals from industries and research organizations, who now wish to gain a solid understanding on the innovations in the field of Embedded Systems. This workshop was an ideal forum to learn relevant new skills, and about the latest technologies and products in embedded systems area; to network with industry experts, and to discover an exhibit floor featuring leading companies showcasing cutting-edge products- all under one roof.
