SASTRA student tops GATE-2013

Deepa Rajagopalan, a final year B.Tech. Biotechnolgy student of SASTRA University secured the All India First Rank and topped the GATE-2013 examinations in the Biotechnology stream. With 80 marks, she emerged first amongst the 16159 candidates appearing in the Biotechnology stream in GATE-2013. Deepa has been a consistent performer and also won the prestigious Khorana Fellowship during 2012 and spent a term as research intern at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA and worked in the area of intracellular trafficking of vitamin B12. Passionate about making a career in Biotechnology, Deepa is keen to pursue higher education in India and was thrilled with the results. When contacted, she admitted that she has not even applied to any US universities and would like to pursue research in India. Three more students  Abinaya Badri, Nagammal and Preethi Narayani have secured ranks 13, 26 and 28 respectively. The management of SASTRA congratulates all the students for their outstanding achievements and added that such student achievements reflect the quality of students and the high standards of SASTRA’s School of Chemical & Biotechnology which is ranked amongst the best in the country.
