SASTRA Establishes Chair on Legal Anthropology

  
The School of Law at SASTRA University, established  a Chair on Legal Anthropology to conduct research in the converging field of law & society. Announcing this during the inauguration of “Tarka Sastra”, the School of Law’s National Moot Court Competition, the Vice-Chancellor Prof.R.Sethuraman hoped that this new chair will encourage research faculty and students to explore the multidimensional convergence of Law, Anthropology, Sociology, Economics, Theology & Humanities. The Moot Court Competition conducted between March 28 & 31st in an issue of international arbitration witnessed the participation of over 36 law schools from all over India. This includes the National Law Schools in Gandhinagar, Odisha, Lucknow, Kochi, Delhi and other premier law schools like ILS(Pune), School of Excellence (TNDALU),  KLA, GLC (Trivandrum), etc. The team from National Law University, Delhi were declared winners of Tarka Sastra and bagged a cash prize of Rs.50,000 and the winners’ trophy. Justice N.V.Balasubramanian (Retd. Judge, High Court of Madras), Shri.G.Masilamani (Senior Advocate & Addl. Solicitor General of India) and Shri Aditya Bhat (Partner AZB & Partners) comprised the jury for the finals. Shri S.Gurumurthy, Renowned Columnist delivered the inaugural address on the topic “Evolution of Law & Society.”
