SASTRA Team Wins The Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition™ 2010

   

NAIRAO Innovations, the team from SASTRA University won the Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition 2010 beating teams from IIT and BITS, Pilani. The team came up with a solution for tackling the climate change, at the Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition™. Asia’s first and most prestigious sustainable/clean technology business plan competition held at IIT Madras form 29th September to 3rd October.

The Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition™ Asia’s first and most prestigious sustainable/clean technology business plan competition, founded in 2007, is the brainchild of Mrs. Oopali Operajita, CEO, Cicero.

NAIRAO Innovations comprising the students from SASTRA University -- Nair Vivek Sahadevan , Suma Prabhakaran , Praveen LR ,  Venkateswara Rao, Kaushik Mahadevan  ,Guru Krupa N and Deepak Krishna. The team came with a solution for reducing the carbon emission from industrial exhaust chamber by producing Carbon Nano Tubes (CNT) from the flue gas coming through it. These CNT has an attractive economic quotient that could rope in both small as well as large scale industries in to this venture.

The team competed against 7 other teams-- 4 from IIT KGP, 2 from BITS PILANI and 1 from IIT M. The team from SASTRA University bagged the first prize bettering all other teams. The Judging Panel was headed by Ms. Oopali Operajita, several reputed Venture Capitalist like Mr.Gopal Srinivasan from TVSE and other successful entrepreneurs.  The felicitation ceremony was attended by Mrs. Oopali Operajita, Dr. Edichandy and others. The team was awarded with a citation and cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh.
