PROMOTION OF RESEARCH
It is our basic belief that good researchers are well equipped to be good teachers since
they develop a perspective of the future of technology and hence they are ideally suited to
create human resources for both academia and industry. Various avenues for promotion
of research include augmentation of research infrastructure, provision for seed money,
incentives for research, fellowship for full-time Ph.D. scholars and resource building in
new areas of research.
SASTRA provides seed money for research through Prof. T. R. Rajagopalan (Prof. TRR)
R&D Cell and Research & Modernization Fund. Prof. TRR grant is awarded to faculty as
seed grant for initiating research, for proof of concept studies and for building the proposal
deck for extramural grants. The funding call is open round the year and meritorious
proposals are funded to a maximum of Rs 3 lakh, and reviewed rigorously to track the
intended outcomes.
Research & Modernization (R&M) Fund has been created with a corpus of Rs 5 crore to
conduct research and create / modernize the facility. R&M grant is sanctioned to proposals
from faculty members across all Schools to the tune of Rs 50 lakh for establishing research
facility & modernization of existing laboratories. Proposals are funded once a year after a
review process by experts.
To encourage research and attract young scholars to pursue their Ph.D., SASTRA has
launched the Teaching / Research Assistantship Scheme with a corpus of Rs 2.50 crore,
wherein candidates will be admitted to the Ph.D. programme with a monthly stipend.
In addition, SASTRA supports creation of Centres of Excellence in niche areas and
augmentation of research infrastructure on a regular basis, aligning with the global &
national trends and needs.
