Inclusion of Cultural Heritage in Curriculum on 24-02-2023
A One Day International Conference on “Inclusion of Cultural Heritage in Curriculum” was organized by School of Arts, Sciences, Humanities and Education on 24.2.23 which was funded by SHASTRI Indo- Canadian Institute as part of SCLSG programme. The event was inaugurated by Dr. K. Umamaheswari, Dean, SASHE. The resource persons are Dr Ruthramoorthy Cheran, Associat Professor, University of Windsor, Canada, Ms. Simge Erdogan O Connor, Murney Tower Museum, Canada, Dr V Selvakumar, Associate Professor and Head, Tamil University, India, Dr S B Darsana, Assistant Professor, Bharathidasan University, India and Dr V K Karthika, Assistant Professor, NIT, India. The speakers addressed on the importance of knowing the cultural heritage at the local and also at the global level. They stresses on the need to revise the present day curriculum to be oriented towards exposure to liberal arts, Cultural Heritage Awareness, Exposing the local traditional knowledge around the students arena, to launch new courses on Heritage Management, and on the employment opportunities available for students who are culturally competent. The attendees of the conference are teacher trainee students and, the speakers stressed on the development of cultural competence among the student fraternity, through the present day teacher trainees who are the teachers of tomorrow. The conference was attended by 250 participants who are inclusive of students from B. Ed., courses, Research Scholars and Faculty of SASTRA, and also by members from other institutions.
